My new body of work explores the tension between sensationalism and substance in contemporary media. I examine how attention is manipulated through distortion, spectacle, and excess—from vintage tabloid headlines to today’s scrollable content. Drawing inspiration from Midwestern billboards—loud, fleeting, and easily ignored—I consider how visual noise shapes what we notice, remember, or forget.
At the core of my practice is the process itself. In contrast to the disembodied digital image or algorithm-driven art, I embrace a tactile, physical approach. Through layering, texture, and time, each piece reflects the fragmented, evolving nature of media—but insists on being experienced in real space. The work resists flattening. It holds presence.
Ultimately, I aim to prompt reflection on how media influences collective perception. These pieces don’t offer easy answers—they ask viewers to look longer, question more deeply, and consider what we trade when we prioritize attention over understanding.
